How to Holistically Beat the Winter Blues


I live in North Vancouver which is on the west coast of Canada. We consider ourselves the California of Canada, because of our temperate climate. This winter has been amazing, but Mother Nature may have a snowy surprise for us yet. Vancouverites struggle our way through the snow while the rest of the country laughs at us.


This had me thinking about winter’s challenges, and how Winter Blues affect everyone. It can especially affect people who are already going through challenging times in their lives. With the endless days of dark dreary weather, people can get funky. Many people are affected by SADS (seasonal affective disorder) because they don’t get enough sunlight.

If you are going through a challenging time, your physical, mental, and emotional health suffers. Everyone experiences grief differently, and symptoms can range from lack of energy, anxiety, insomnia, depression, brain fog, digestive issues, to physical aches and pains.


If you are feeling any of these ways, there is always a natural remedy that can work wonders to uplift your mood. Orange Essential Oil is the “#1 SCENT IN THE WORLD” because it is so uplifting and pleasant. Very few people dislike the smell and taste of the orange fruit and orange essential oil is no different. In fact, I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like it, as it is a great essential oil to use with children too.


Physically, it aids with digestive issues, constipation, skin issues especially oily, colds and flus, and it stimulates the lymphatic system.


Emotionally, Orange reduces stress, anxiety, depression, sadness, hopelessness, worry, insomnia, addiction, and burnout.


Give this essential oil a try and uplift the Winter Blues and refresh your state of being. Here are a few ideas to get you started:


1—Orange Misting Potion:


INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 glass spray bottle

  • 24 drops orange essential oil

  • 120mL/4oz. distilled water

DIRECTIONS:

Fill a glass bottle with distilled water. Add 24 drops of orange essential oil. Give the mixture a shake before you use it to blend the essential oil with the water. Mist around your body, home, bedroom, car, or office.

Note: Orange may cause dermal sensitivity and increase photo sensitivity so do not mist yourself and go straight out into the sun. Also, do not spray onto your face or eyes.


2—Diffusing Orange:


INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 drops orange essential oil

  • Water

  • Room diffuser

DIRECTIONS:

If you don't have a diffuser, I highly recommend you go out and buy one.

Fill diffuser with water to the appropriate level and add 6 drops of orange essential oil. Run diffuser throughout the day and let this happy scent bring joy to you and your family.


3—Uplifting Orange Bath:


INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 drops orange essential oil

  • 1/2 cup epsom salts

  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil

DIRECTIONS:

In a small bowl, combine coconut oil with orange essential oil. Then add the epsom salts and thoroughly mix ingredients together. Add mixture to your bath and relax.


4—Orange Floor Cleaner:


INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 drops orange essential oil

  • warm water

DIRECTIONS:

I use essential oils for all of my cleaning supplies and orange is one of my favourites because it makes me happy and cheerful.


Fill a bucket with warm water and add 6 drops of orange essential oil. Mop your floor as usual and let dry. Remember to wear gloves!


As you can see, Orange Essential Oil is quick and easy to use. It only takes a few minutes to create an uplifting experience for yourself and your family. Orange is such an enjoyable scent and is a perfect choice when you are beginning to use essential oils.


Please note: there is a lot of adulteration with essential oils so make sure you buy an organic pure essential oil. If you are unsure, then ask the retailer to provide proof that the essential oil is pure. If they can’t, don’t buy it.
